Pet travel checklist:

1. Microchipping 
2. EU Passport
3. Rabies vaccination up to date or 21 days before traveling

4- Pre-flight check up +/- deworming 24 to 120 hours prior traveling

Travel Documents

According to EU law, all pets must have up-to-date vaccinations, deworming and valid documents for travel. It's essential to verify these requirements with local authorities to ensure compliance.

With proper planning and consultation with your veterinarian, ensuring all required documents, vaccinations, and tests are completed on time, you can seamlessly travel to any part of the world with your furry friend by your side.

Pet travel checklist  : 

​1. Microchip 
2. A rabies vaccine up to date or 21 days before travelling according to the country you are traveling

3. Antibody rabies titter test according to the country you are traveling 

4. Official Health Certificate, deworming and health check up.

Important : NOT all non-EU countries request rabies antibody titter test. For detailed information on all requeired documents and test for the country you plan to visit, please refer to the official government website of your destination

What is an antibody rabies titter test ?

The rabies antibody titer test is a crucial requirement for traveling with pets to certain countries.

 

This test measures the level of rabies antibodies in dogs and cats' ensuring they have adequate protection against the virus.

 

To conduct the test, a blood sample is collected 30 days post vaccination and sent to a certified laboratory by your veterinarian.

 

Most country request a waiting period of 3 months after the blood collection before entering the country. 

* Values equal to or greater than 0,5 IU/ml are consider valid

Rabies vaccine

Mandatory for pet travel  to prevent the spread of the disease.According to the country you will need  the rabies vaccine 21 days, 30 days prior travelling or a rabies antibody titter test. 

Health check up

Ensure they are in optimal health and providing deworming if required by the destination country. This ensures they meet all requirements for an international health certificate, guaranteeing a safe and smooth journey.

Pet Passport 

It is an official document that contains important information about your pet, It enables pets to travel between EU countries seamlessly.

Rabies antibody titer test 

It measures the level of antibodies against rabies virus, ensuring they have sufficient immunity for international travel or local regulations.

International health certificate

 Official document certifying that the animal is healthy and meets the entry requirements of the destination country.

Travel documents for pets entering Malta from non-EU countries

1. Microchip 


2. A rabies vaccine at 12 weeks of age/up to date or 21 days before travelling according to the country you are coming from. 

 3.*Antibody rabies titter test if you are travelling from an  "unlisted country" 

 The test must be carried out at least 30 days after the date of vaccination and not less than three months before the date of movement, the test must measure a level of neutralising antibody to rabies virus in serum equal to or greater than 0,5IU/ml, the test must be performed in an approved laboratory​​

4. An official Health Certificate issued by the country of departure either " listed" or

"unlisted country"

5. De-worming agains Echinococcus multiocularis between 24 to 120 hours prior

6. Pet import notification online, it need to be submitted at least 2 days
